His impressive 2014 debut EP, Carrington Street, a heartfelt rumination on life growing up in Maitland, suggested a master craftsman, a writer adept in penning songs that creep up on you and cut deep.
Dave Wells has given the world a taste of his upcoming debut solo record with the release of the stirring and anthemic single ‘Run Free’.
This rousing piece of balladry is a call-to-arms for anyone boarded between four walls, allowing time to slip through their fingers. Whether it be physically, spiritually or creatively, the message of ‘Run Free’ is crystal clear – take a chance.
“Despite fears of prejudice or uncertainty, we don’t always have to feel bound by the self-imposed pressures of time and society,” Wells says. “’Run Free’ was written as a positive reminder, that you can always find a way to explore a true desire.”
The track is accompanied by a dreamy music video, filmed in the pristine bushland serenity of the Barrington Tops’ foothills in Salisbury NSW. Kinetic camera work captures the song’s haunting restlessness, with Wells barefoot in a fusion of nature and domestic living space.
His anticipated debut record is the follow-up to his lauded 2014 EP Carrington Street, which spawned the live favourites ‘In the City’ and the classic title track. Despite the strength of that first foray into life as a solo performer, Wells has his eyes fixed firmly on the future. If ‘Run Free’ is any indication, it will be a bright future indeed.
