Carefully crafted lyrics set to a mix of cinematic and raw, stripped-back compositions are the hallmark of David Spry’s music. He can read audiences from party beach to acoustic chill. His style moves from gritty and intimate songs to free-spirited, fun tracks. David strongly identifies with his Maranunggu/Marrithiyel heritage from around what is now known as Daly River and Litchfield regions. His cultural heritage on both parents’ sides has informed not just his songwriting but his take on life and how to live it as a conscientious human, leaving a legacy and being mindful of his place in the world. David has made his mark in the industry earning support slots from Michael Franti & Spearhead, Jeff Lang, Busby Marou, Tex Perkins & Ash Grunwald. Working with Archie Roach’s Indigenous Gospel Choir for the ‘Into the Bloodstream’ show and travelling to the Taoyuon International Indigenous Music Festival in Taiwan with Shellie Morris have been highlights both personally and professionally. Performing at the 2017 National Indigenous Music Awards was a defining and affirming moment in David’s career.
