Samantha Morris has lived on the Gold Coast nearly all her life and is passionate about busting the boring stereotypes associated with the sixth largest city in Australia. Most of her 25-year professional career has been spent working with conservation and land management groups on communication, fundraising and engagement and she’s won several awards recognising her work in that space. In 2013 she decided to focus closer to home and launched an old-school street-press style print magazine focused on the local music and cultural scene. Blank GC has become the Gold Coast’s independent cultural voice and has won Magazine of the Year in the Gold Coast media awards for two year’s running. In 2015 she also launched the annual Gold Coast Music Awards which sees the Esplanade closed in Surfers Paradise with 8,000 people above seasonal average attending the event in 2018. Sam is a freelance music and culture writer for City of Gold Coast, Destination Gold Coast and other publications and organisations, she sits on the Advisory Board for the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and has a regular weekly on ABC Gold Coast where she talks new local music and gigs.
